Ob vs. Wenn — German Subordinating Conjunctions

Can you replace it with "whether"? → ob. Can you replace it with "in the case that" or "whenever"? → wenn.
ob vs. wenn — The Rules
ob
Use "ob" when you mean "whether" — expressing uncertainty about a yes/no question. It introduces indirect yes/no questions: "Ich weiß nicht, ob er kommt" (I don't know whether he's coming).
wenn
Use "wenn" when you mean "if" (condition) or "when" (repeated/future). Conditions: "Wenn es regnet, bleibe ich zu Hause." Time: "Wenn ich aufwache, trinke ich Kaffee."

Ich weiß nicht, ob er kommt.
I don't know whether he's coming.
Wenn er kommt, gehen wir essen.
If he comes, we'll go eat.
Frag sie, ob sie Zeit hat.
Ask her whether she has time.
Wenn sie Zeit hat, kommt sie mit.

Common Mistakes
Ich weiß nicht, wenn er kommt.
Ich weiß nicht, ob er kommt.
"I don't know whether..." = uncertainty about yes/no → "ob".
Ob es regnet, bleibe ich zu Hause.
Wenn es regnet, bleibe ich zu Hause.
This is a condition ("in case it rains") → "wenn".
Frag ihn, wenn er mitkommen will.
Frag ihn, ob er mitkommen will.
Indirect yes/no question → "ob" (ask him WHETHER he wants to come).
Memory Trick
"ob" = "or not?" (uncertainty). "wenn" = "whenever/in case" (condition or time).
